Friday May 1st, 1987 - Lindy vs. Half Hollow Hills East

Despite high expectations for the ‘87 season, Lindy had a tough year with only 4 wins going into game 12 against highly ranked HHE (I believe they were ranked in the top 10 in the state, maybe top 5). Hills East would wind up with, I believe, 3 All-Americans that year. Anyway, HHE leads 8-4 at the half, but Lindy comes roaring back in the second half with Tom Kienle tying the game at 9 with 4:13 left. The game then went into overtime. After a scoreless 1st OT the teams then exchanged goals in the second OT, Lindy’s goal being scored by I believe Mike Quagerelli. Now it's onto sudden death with yet another scoreless period, then 40 seconds into sudden death per. #2 Tommy Kienle does it again and wins the game for Lindy 11-10. It was a hugely disappointing year for all of us (especially the Srs.) but this win was phenomenal as well as bittersweet because we realized too late in the season how good we COULD have been. Boxscore: Quagerelli-3 Kienle-3 Senatore-2 D'Angelo-2 D'Albora-1 Simmons-23 svs.(his best game ever in a Lindy uni.)
- Mike Simmons
